Welcome,
Greetings and Salutations to the Village members and future Village members alike.
Welcome to Episode 2 of Chapter 3 - "Toxines" is the topic and we are learning #FaxOverFixedShun from my Great Grandfather who is one of the greatest #DoctorsOfMedicine #GreatGrandfather #HIDstorian this planet has ever known.
And I am getting a chance to learn how things were in his day and how that differs from what is known and shown of these times.
Some of these people mentioned throughout this series are EXACTLY who they turned out to be through what we know now as #HIDstory and following in the footsteps of my Great Grandfather, I added " #HIDstorian " to my resume since so much has been #HIDden from you and me!
POPE Ben E. Ficial the First: This is Episode 3 of Chapter 2 "Toxines," and we have the honor as well as pleasure of my Great Grandfather to tell us of his experiences as one of the first doctors of medicine's veterans. The last episode you were breaking down tetanus and experiments thereof. Thank you Great Grandfather for taking the time out to tell us how they used to do it before them people chose to erase a few things here in there due to it not being any money in the cure, only the research.
Great Grandfather Dr. Ernest C. Dickson MD: "Well, Other experiments of fundamental value in regard to tetanus have been performed by Prof. Hans Meyer, who has shown that the tetanus toxine actually leaves the area in which is is produced in tetanus infection and travels up the axis cylinder of the motor nerves and combines with the brain cells. He has take sections of the motor nerves at various points, and has been able to mark out the path by means of which the tetanus toxine reaches the brain from the local lesion, and has also been able to estimate the rapidity with which this process is carried out. The tetanus toxine is one of the most important of all the substances in this group, the next being the diphtheria toxine.
POPE Ben E. Ficial the First: "The Diphtheria Toxine?"
Great Grandfather Dr. Ernest C. Dickson MD: "From certain standpoints, especially in the application of anti-toxines to the cure of disease, possibly the latter substance is the more important.
Similar methods were adopted in the study of the diphtheria bacillus. This microorganism was discovered originally by Klebs in the throats of children suffering form membranous croup or diphtheria.
POPE Ben E. Ficial the First: "You should see who Klebs turned out to be in our #HIDstoryLesson!"
Great Grandfather Dr. Ernest C. Dickson MD: "It was shown to have a characteristic morphology and certain peculiar staining reactions. It differed from all the other microorganisms present in the threats of normal individuals and its relationship to the disease was very clearly established. Like the tetanus bacillus, the diphtheria bacillus has a local development. It grows almost entirely in the throat and limits its growth to this area except in advanced cases where it may extend up into the nasal passages or down into the larynx or bronchi. Only very rarely may it get into the internal organs of the body or into the blood stream. The effects of the disease, moreover, have no very great relationship to the distribution of the bacillus, in as much as the development of the organism in the throat may lead to all of the symptoms of the disease and may even cause death. Inoculations with the diphtheria bacillus are fatal to practically all test animals. The guinea pig is especially valuable for this work, in as much as it is extremely susceptible to the action of this microorganism. If one inoculates a guinea pig with a culture of the diphtheria bacillus containing the products of the bacillus and the microorganism itself, one will find after 24 hours very characteristic lesions. At the site of inoculation there is an intense hemorrhagic oedema. If you make your inoculation in the subcutaneous tissues of the abdominal wall you will find after the lapse of a few hours an enormous amount of exudate all over this area. This exudate is rich in serum and is nearly always blood stained. Then there are typical lesions in the internal organs, usually necroses - necroses in the liver, and especially in the heart muscle. There are, in addition, hemorrhages, and these three changes - the subcutaneous oedema, the necrosis and the hemorrhage are the lesions which are usually found in inoculating animals with the diphtheria bacillus. It was observed by Roux and Yersin soon after the discovery of the tetanus toxine that if one filters a culture of the diphtheria bacillus one can produce the characteristic lesions in animals by the inoculation of small amounts of the filtrate. If you take .05 cc of filtrate virulent from a culture for instance, and inject it into the subcutaneous tissues of a guinea pig, the animal will die at the end of 48 hours and you will find the same blood stained exudate the the same necroses and the same distribution of hemorrhages as in inoculating with the bacillus itself. This substance is, of course, the diphtheria toxine and it is the same substance with produces the lesions in children sick with this disease.
POPE Ben E. Ficial the First: "Whoa, I see what you're talking about. Just from then to now fills in a lot of blanks for folks that are starting to better OVERstand the plan at hand that is being ran.
